Taking the Plunge
After long and careful deliberation and research I have decided to take the plunge and start watching Mad Men. With Season 3 premiering to rave reviews on Sunday the hype behind this show has become massive and I feel like I’m missing out on a cultural pheonomenon by not watching. I’m sick of people telling Don Draper jokes and my reaction having to be a nervous smile/laugh with my eyes down. This way people think I’m in the know but will not actually ask me any questions or press me on my knowledge of the subject. I do the same thing when people talk about striking out with girls.
In the end though it wasn’t the gigantic hype, or the countless GQ articles, or even the prospect of sexual harassment being encouraged in the workplace. The tipping point for me was when I found out on Monday that Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner was also a senior writer on The Sopranos. In fact he co-wrote several of the final episodes of the show with Sopranos creator David Chase. (Seriously if you haven’t watched Season 6, Part 2 of the Sopranos YOU SHOULD. Its some of the best TV ever created…do yourself a favour) Once I heard this I knew I needed to give this show a chance.
So if your still not convinced (Now that I’m onboard, its the place to be!) you’ll probably need something extra. Your probably one of those guys who can’t get enough of Two and a Half Men and really wishes that the suits at ABC never pulled the plug on Home Improvement. In that case read the below article and scroll down to the bottom…now you have a reason to watch.
