Up In the Air

The above trailer is for Up in the Air the upcoming movie directed by Jason Reitman and starring George Clooney. I’m just upset that I saw this trailer today because this movie just had its World Premiere at TIFF last week.

Now we all know Clooney’s resume and his ability to somehow become better looking as he gets older. (No seriously watch some early ER and then watch anything Clooney has done recently….no contest and no homo) Moving on from that lets look at the budding star director that is Jason Reitman. His first two movies Thank You For Smoking and Juno were both well written and emotionally intelligent films that also performed well at the box office. Based on the trailer it looks like Up In The Air is following this rich tradition by examining the pros and cons of a life without relationships.

In the film Clooney plays a man whose job it is to fly around the country and terminate people from their jobs. In the process he becomes an emotionally detached, island of a man who dulls his pain with sex, booze, and drugs. Reitman makes movies that seem to be about one thing but under the surface they examine several different emotional issues. For example to call Juno a movie exclusively about teen pregnancy is the same as calling The Sopranos a show that only deals with the Mafia.

Its being released November 25th, 2009 and I plan on checking it out.
